VoxyAI

One of VoxyAI’s many hidden features

Clipboard History in VoxyAI knows code when it sees it, keeps what you pin, lets you fix a clip before you paste it, and searches with your own local AI.

Every day I copy dozens of things. A tracking number, the address of a restaurant, a flight confirmation, a SQL query I’ll need again tomorrow, a link someone sent me. Then I copy something else, and the last thing is gone.

VoxyAI has a Clipboard History that fixes this, and it’s one of my favorite features in the app. It rarely comes up when people talk about VoxyAI, which is a shame, because it quietly makes VoxyAI a much better assistant. It knows code when it sees it, it keeps the things you pin, it lets you fix a clip before you paste it, and it can search with the AI model running on your own computer.

One shortcut away

Clipboard History is off until you turn it on in Settings → Clipboard. After that, press ⌘⇧V on a Mac or Ctrl+Win+V on Windows from any app. Pick an item, press Return, and it’s pasted where you were typing.

Here it is with a typical day’s worth of clips, some work, some life. Go ahead and play with it: click an item, pin one, try the filters, or try one of the AI searches under it.

Try AI Search:

The colors and detected languages are the output of VoxyAI’s own highlighter, run on these clips. In the app, clicking an item opens it in an editor window where you can change the text too. AI Search is simulated here; in VoxyAI your own model reads the clips.

It knows code when it sees it

Most clipboard managers treat everything as plain text. VoxyAI looks at what you copied and recognizes 17 languages, from Swift, Python and JavaScript to SQL, JSON, HTML, YAML and shell commands. Code shows up in the colors you know from your IDE, right in the list, so a wall of identical gray lines turns into something you can scan.

Detection isn’t perfect, and short snippets can be ambiguous. When it guesses wrong, open the item and pick the right language from the menu. VoxyAI remembers your choice for that clip. If you’d rather a clip had no colors at all, choose Plain Text.

The Code filter shows only code, which is handy when you know you copied a command an hour ago and can’t remember the exact words.

Pin what matters

History has a limit you choose, from 100 to 5,000 items, and older items roll off the end. Pinned items don’t. Pin the things you reach for every week, like the sign-off you paste into emails or the query you run every Monday, and they stay until you delete them. The Pinned tab shows just those.

Unpinning by accident doesn’t cost you anything either. An item you unpin counts as freshly copied, so it won’t be the first thing to roll off the list.

Fix it before you paste it

Click any item and it opens in an editor. Fix the typo in a message, change Thursday to Friday, swap a table name, or trim a stack trace down to the one line that matters. Save updates the item in your history, and Copy puts your edited version on the clipboard without changing the original. Cancel takes you straight back to the list.

Search with your own AI

Regular search has a catch: you have to remember the exact words. Search for “where’s my package” and you get nothing, because what you copied was 1Z 999 AA1 01 2345 6784. Search for “the query that finds inactive users” and you get nothing either, because the query says last_login < now() - interval '90 days'. None of your words are in them.

Turn on AI Search and you can just describe what you copied. VoxyAI shows the regular matches right away, then gives your recent clips to your default model, which reads them the way you would and picks the ones you meant. “Where’s my package” finds the tracking number. “The restaurant for dinner” finds the address you copied from Maps. “My flight to New York” finds the confirmation, even though it only says JFK. Try them in the demo above with AI Search off, then on.

That model is the one running on your Mac, your PC, or another Mac of yours that you’ve paired with VoxyAI. It sees the first 200 characters of at most 20 clips, and nothing goes to the cloud. Anything that contains your exact words always stays in the results, and if the model isn’t available, you still get regular search.

Private by design

A clipboard history holds a lot of sensitive things, so VoxyAI treats it that way. It only records text, never images or files. Items are encrypted and stored only on your computer. You can exclude apps such as your password manager so their copies are never recorded, and turning the feature off can erase everything that isn’t pinned.

Same feature on Mac and Windows

VoxyAI is a native app on both platforms, and Clipboard History works the same way on each. Same filters, same pins, same code colors, same editor, same AI Search. Only the shortcut changes: ⌘⇧V on a Mac, Ctrl+Win+V on Windows.

The Pinned tab, the code colors, the editor and search by description arrive in the next VoxyAI update. If you already use VoxyAI, turn Clipboard History on and give it a day. I think you’ll wonder how you managed without it.
